IP Address Tracker
Look up any IP address to find location, ISP & network details
How Does IP Tracking Work?
Every device connected to the internet has an IP (Internet Protocol) address -- a unique numerical label that identifies it on the network. IP geolocation works by mapping IP address ranges to physical locations using databases maintained by Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) and commercial providers.
What can be determined from an IP address:
- Approximate location: City-level accuracy (not exact street address). Accuracy varies from 50-90% at city level.
- ISP/Organization: The internet service provider or company that owns the IP range.
- Country and region: Highly accurate (99%+ for country level).
- Connection type: Whether it is residential, commercial, or mobile.
- Timezone: Based on the geographic location of the IP.
What CANNOT be determined:
- Your exact home address or street name
- Your personal identity or name
- Your browsing history or online activity
- Your device details or files
IP addresses can be IPv4 (e.g., 192.168.1.1) or IPv6 (e.g., 2001:0db8:85a3::8a2e:0370:7334). IPv4 addresses are running out, so the world is gradually transitioning to IPv6 which provides virtually unlimited addresses.

Static vs Dynamic IP Addresses
There are two types of IP addresses you might have:
- Dynamic IP (most home users): Your ISP assigns a different IP each time you reconnect or periodically. This is standard for Jio Fiber, Airtel, ACT, etc. It changes, so tracking you over time is harder.
- Static IP (businesses/servers): A fixed IP that never changes. Required for hosting websites, running servers, or setting up VPN access. Costs extra from most ISPs (INR 500-2000/month in India).
Most Indian home broadband connections use CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT), meaning multiple households share the same public IP. This is why IP geolocation may show a different city than your actual location -- it shows where your ISP's NAT gateway is located.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can someone find my exact address from my IP?
No. IP geolocation typically provides city-level accuracy at best. Your exact street address cannot be determined from your IP alone. Only your ISP has the mapping between your IP and your physical address, and they only share it with law enforcement via legal process.
Is IP tracking legal?
Looking up publicly available IP information is legal. IP addresses are not considered personal data by themselves in most jurisdictions. However, using IP information for harassment, stalking, or unauthorized access is illegal.
Why does my IP show a different city?
Many ISPs use CGNAT or route traffic through regional hubs. Your IP may be registered to your ISP's data center, not your home. Using a VPN will show the VPN server's location instead.
