How many lakhs is 1 million?
One conversion factor covers the whole thing: ten. Everything else in the table is that factor applied twice.
1 million is exactly 10 lakh. A million is 1,000,000 and a lakh is 100,000, so a million contains ten of them. The same factor of ten runs the other way at the next step up: 1 crore is 10 million, and 1 billion is 100 crore.

Frequently asked
How many lakhs is 5 million?
50 lakh, which is also 0.5 crore. The rule is to multiply the million figure by 10 to get lakhs, then divide by 100 to get crores. So 5 million = 50 lakh = 5 crore / 10 = 0.5 crore.
How many million is 1 crore?
10 million. A crore is 10,000,000 and a million is 1,000,000. Newspapers sometimes write "10 million (1 crore)" in the same sentence for exactly this reason - neither figure is more correct, they are the same number in two conventions.
Is a billion 100 crore or 1,000 crore?
100 crore. A billion is 1,000,000,000 - nine zeros - and a crore is 10,000,000 - seven zeros - so a billion is a hundred crores. The 1,000-crore figure people sometimes quote is 10 billion. This is the single most common error in reporting on funding rounds.
What about the old British billion?
Before the 1970s British usage a billion meant a million million, i.e. 10^12, which would be 1 lakh crore. Every English-speaking country including the UK now uses the short scale, where a billion is 10^9 = 100 crore. If you are reading a document written before about 1974, check which one it means.
