Best Free QR Code Generators (2026)

Static QR codes that never expire — plus UPI, WiFi and WhatsApp variants.

The most important thing about a free QR code generator is whether it makes a static or dynamic code. Static QR codes encode your data directly and work forever. Dynamic codes encode a redirect through the generator's server — which means the code stops working if that company shuts down, or once the free trial ends. Many “free” QR generators quietly issue dynamic codes and then start charging. SnoopTool generates static codes only.

Never use a dynamic QR code on anything printed

This is the rule that saves money. If you print 5,000 flyers with a dynamic QR code from a free tier, you have handed a third party a kill switch on your entire print run. When the trial lapses, every code becomes a broken link or an upsell page. It happens constantly.

For a poster, business card, restaurant menu or product label, use a static code pointing at a URL you control. If you later need to change the destination, change what your own URL redirects to — you get dynamic behaviour without depending on anyone else.

UPI and WiFi QR codes are just formatted text

There's no magic here, which is why they can be generated entirely offline. A UPI QR encodes a string like upi://pay?pa=name@bank&pn=Name&am=100. A WiFi QR encodes WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:password;;.

Because it's plain text, a UPI QR generator or WiFi QR generator that runs in your browser never sees your UPI ID or WiFi password — the encoding happens locally. That's worth caring about: pasting your home WiFi password into someone's server to make a guest QR code is a genuinely bad trade.

Frequently asked questions

Do free QR codes expire?

Static QR codes never expire — the data is encoded in the pattern itself, so the code works as long as the destination does. Dynamic QR codes do expire, because they point at a redirect on the generator's server; when the free trial ends or the company folds, the code dies. Always check which type you're getting before printing. SnoopTool's QR generator produces static codes only.

Is it safe to generate a WiFi QR code online?

Only with a client-side generator, because a WiFi QR encodes your network password in plain text. A server-side tool receives that password. SnoopTool's WiFi QR generator builds the code in your browser, so the password never leaves your device. As a general habit, put guests on a guest network rather than sharing your main password at all.

How do I create a UPI QR code for payments?

Enter your UPI ID (e.g. name@okhdfcbank), your display name and optionally a fixed amount into a UPI QR generator. It encodes a standard upi://pay string that every UPI app — GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM — can read. Leave the amount blank to let the payer enter it. Always test-scan your own code with a Re 1 payment before printing it for a shop counter.

What is the maximum data a QR code can hold?

A QR code holds up to about 4,296 alphanumeric characters at the largest version and lowest error correction, but practical scanning gets unreliable long before that — the pattern gets dense and phone cameras struggle. Keep URLs under about 300 characters for reliable scanning. If your link is long, shorten it first; that's also why very long text is better as a link than as QR-encoded content.
