Why two date calculators can disagree
Inclusive versus exclusive counting. Is the day of birth day zero or day one? Age uses zero; a hotel stay uses one. This is the most common source of an off-by-one difference.
Time zones. If one system computes in UTC and another in IST, a birth just after midnight IST lands on the previous date in UTC.
Daylight saving. Not an issue for IST, which has none, but a difference computed in hours across a DST boundary can be 23 or 25 hours long.
29 February birthdays. In a non-leap year, is the birthday on 28 February or 1 March? Different jurisdictions and different systems answer differently.
Pre-1752 dates. Britain and its colonies switched from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in September 1752, skipping 11 days. Historical date arithmetic across that boundary needs care.
