Starting with Magento 1.9.x. Magento is forcing orders emails to be queued to process the email queue by cron.
There is no builtin settings for Magento if someone does not want to wait or someone does not have permission to run cron on server.
With this plugin you can just enable or disable this queue feature.
Disabling the queue feature with this extension will let you send order emails immediately.
